The Story of Serendipity~

Why is this pilgrimage special?
When Nilmini and I created “Serendipity- A Yoga Pilgrimage to Sri Lanka”, we knew it was going to be special in some very specific ways.  Everything that continues to unfold around this upcoming journey feels auspicious, and we are excited to tell you why.
We wanted to fold in our mutual love of elephants into the pilgrimage.  These gentle and wise creatures are an alchemy of our primal nature and our search for cultural artistry.    Elephants are so very human in the most tender way, and their loyalty and generosity is installed at birth.  I will tell the sacred stories of Ganesha (the mythic yoga deity who has the head of an elephant)  throughout our journey.  Storytelling is one of my greatest loves, and to be able to weave our journey with these sacred myths is going to be spectacular.  When Nilmini told me that her family owned elephants in Sri Lanka and she remembers growing up making friends with the graceful creatures, I knew we had to go.  We will get to visit an elephant orphanage and feed the babies with bottles of milk, which I am particularly excited about.  Apparently they LOVE to snuggle with you!   In Sri Lanka- when you are a baby- you are swung under the belly of an elephant in order to invoke a life of courage.  To close our journey together, we will get to witness the Kandy Perehera. (A sacred parade of adorned elephants in Sri Lanka)- We have a special balcony reserved for this evening- which will be the best seat in the “house”.
We plan for this journey to be as powerful internally as it is externally.  There […]

Yoga Therapeutics: The Medicine of Yoga

Yoga is designed to help us feel better, but we must access the alignment properly or we end up with additional pain and discomfort.  I built a yoga therapeutics training to emphasize the MEDICINE of yoga and how specific alignment can help to heal chronic pain, ease surgical recovery, and offer options for EVERY  body to experience pain free practice.  This training is carefully designed for yoga students and teachers to leave with a tool belt of detailed options to heal their own practice and understand how to help others.
These tools will last you for a lifetime.
What we will cover~
*How to listen to your body and locate asymmetrical tendencies, misalignments, and stagnant parts of your practice.
* Common complaints and how to find more space in each pose and rid practice of pain.
* Optimal pelvic and spinal alignment to stack your bones well and take care of yourself short and long term.
*Foundation- hands and feet in detail to bring more vitality and SAFETY in your practice
*  Specific therapeutics of: shoulders, neck and head, wrists and elbows, hands and arms, hips, sacrum and low back, psoas, knees, ankles and feet.

What to do when your demons lounge in the corner~ looking at you.

What to do when your demons lounge in the corner~ looking at you.

This winter has been colder than usual and darker than Denver typically hands us.  I have had to dig down to imagine sunshine some days, and yesterday in particular.   I found myself stuck, not wanting to move, and as I rolled out my mat I saw those old demons lounging sarcastically in the corners of the room.

I have learned to say hello to these haunted stories of hopeless and less-than, because they seem to shrink if I invite them in a little.  As I started to move, 2 words bounced to the surface.

Every thought, gesture, action and conversation is a little magnet to accumulate what we draw in next.  When we are hopeful ~ we attract things, events, and people who are lined with light and positive growth. I decided to pause my practice and light every candle in the house.  I cranked up Van Morrison’s “Brand New Day” and amped up my practice to sweat level.  I flipped it.  My perspective, that is.  I placed (theoretically) 3 little round magnets in the space.  Music that moves, a bright clean room with candles everywhere, and a sequence to flow me to a new space~ inside and outside.

We have more power over our days than we realize.  The most connected and vibrant people have days when their demons taunt them from across the room.  Honor the dark and the teachings it brings, and then move the room around so that your little magnets are in charge.  Who are you spending time with and are they inspiring you?  What do you spend most of your time thinking about?  That’s what your little magnets, your power pieces, are made of.

It is not a secret that feelings […]
