Balancing the Fire of PITTA Dosha in the heat of the Summer
According to the ancient science and tradition of Ayurveda, Pitta Dosha relates to the element of heat and fire in the body and mind.  Pitta governs metabolism in the body, and is responsible for the qualities of intensity, passion, leadership, discipline, and drive to succeed in life.

Individuals with Balanced Pitta are alert and intelligent, have good comprehension and concentration, are sharp, logical investigators and problem solvers, good speakers, leaders, and well organized.  They are good planners, ambitious, and disciplined.  They are very charismatic and make good political leaders.  These traits, when out of balance, can lead to competitiveness, aggressiveness, and perfectionism, as well as harsh judgment of self and others, and they can become workaholics.

What increases (aggravates) Pitta?  Excessive heat, too much spicy, salty, fried, or acidic foods, red meat and alcohol, drives or pressure to compete or succeed, over working, excessive stress, exposure to heat, and situations of injustice.

Symptoms of Pitta imbalance – fever, inflammatory diseases, pain, indigestion, excessive hunger, jaundice, profuse sweating, hives and rashes, burning sensations, ulceration, burning eyes, diarrhea, and sore throats. Anger, criticism, and irritability are emotional symptoms generally worsened in hot weather or in the afternoon.

Pitta type disorders – acne, chronic skin rashes, hay fever, chronic inflammatory diseases, peptic ulcers, hyperacidity, inflammatory bowel conditions, hypertension, heart attacks, urinary tract infections, and hyperthyroid.
